Groundwater-Flow Models

A groundwater-flow model is an important tool in understanding the flow mechanics and hydraulic properties of aquifer systems. The Maryland Geological Survey (MGS) has constructed many flow models over the years with support from local and County governments to help estimate the water-supply potential of aquifers, areas contributing recharge to wells, and the possible effects of well withdrawals on water levels and recharge. Groundwater-flow models can also be used to assess the potential impact from climate change. The map below shows the approximate boundaries of flow models developed by MGS, along with regional models constructed by the U.S. Geological Survey. The model areas can be filtered by the aquifer(s) and geographic area modeled, and by the publication in which the model was documented. Clicking on a model area returns a link to the report documenting model construction.
